Shell partners with mechanical engineers for smarter mobility solutions

MANILA, Philippines - Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation partners with the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) in its advocacy for sustainable and smarter mobility solutions for the future. At the same time, Shell hopes to invite different engineering students to join its annual technology and innovation contest called the shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) and challenge them to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient prototype vehicles.

“We would like to show the PSME, its partners and guests the importance of applying technology and innovation in unlocking the energy challenges we face in the future,” says Ronald Francis Suarez, Pilpinas Shell NGO and stakeholder relations manager. “The Shell Eco-Marathon is a very good platform for students to showcase their application of technology and innovation, as well as their passion and creativity, in the space of mobility.”

PSME is the only accredited and largest professional organization of mechanical engineers in the country. Its annual convention, to be held from Oct. 23 to 26, gathers most of its 35,000 members as well as engineering students. The convention provides a forum for discussions on professional development, exhibits on industrial products, and presentations on global trends in technology.

“There is a great opportunity for our youth to elevate their learning and talents through the SEM, where the very best young minds put their skills to the test,” adds Suarez. “What is more challenging is that our young Filipino engineers will be competing against their contemporaries from other Asian countries. It is a truly special opportunity that should not be missed by our young engineers.”
