Local bag and shoe company goes eco-friendly

MANILA, Philippines - Figliarina celebrates Filipinas’ ingenuity and giving back to Mother Earth with its new unique collection of bags made from factory waste materials. A collaboration with The Invisible Sisters, the new collection is composed of hand-crocheted bags that make use of recyclable materials such as used dry cleaner and plastic bags, hard drives, motherboards, computer wires, compact discs, and cassette and video reels.

Through this new collection, Figliarina aims to promote waste management as a sustainable means to help save the environment, while helping the women of The Invisible Sisters manage their lives better by developing their craft and providing them with a much-needed source of income to boost their self-confidence and give them a sense of self-worth.

“Figliarina is all about giving back to nature and the community with this new bag collection,” said Joey Enriquez, president of Charter International, Inc., makers of Figliarina. “We are honored to collaborate with The Invisible Sisters for this new line, and we hope that we would be able to inspire our customers so they can be fashionable and socially responsible at the same time.”

Founded by visual artist, activist and environmentalist Ann Wizer, The Invisible Sisters is a group of urban poor mothers and grandmothers who undergo weekly training workshops to develop skills in crocheting and knitting. These women are taught to create “something out of nothing” — handcrafted bags, tablecloths, hats, blouses and skirts and other accessories with the use of a variety of random factory waste.

With its collaboration with Figliarina, The Invisible Sisters takes pride in bringing a new line of beautifully crafted masterpieces that inspire them to achieve a more self-sufficient life while inspiring others to support eco-friendly products that are both unique and exquisite.

Figliarina is a brand of sophisticated and chic day-to-night shoes and sandals that come with matching bags using the best materials for young ladies with active lifestyles. Figliarina is part of Charter International, Inc., the company behind top local footwear brands such as Figlia, Figlia Couture by Joey Enriquez, M. Nicole, Barbie by Shubizz, Shubizz and Sorores.
