MANILA, Philippines - Baguio City steps up its promotion of this colorful and beautiful tourist destination by partnering with GE in adopting new lighting technology for its premier attraction, Burnham Park, which is now awash with energy-efficient park lighting along Lake Drive, courtesy of GE LED Decorative Park Lights. The move makes Baguio City one of the first cities in the Philippines to utilize LED lighting technology.
A project of the people of Baguio City spearheaded by Baguio City Congressman Bernardo Vergara in cooperation with the local government of Baguio, this project is in time for the onset of summer, when thousands of local and foreign tourists flock to The City of Pines.
Burnham Park’s landmarks such as the manmade lake, skating rink, football field and the grandstand made it a big factor in the popularity of Baguio City in general. With GE LED Decorative Park Lights, the area has become even more attractive, especially at night. With park lights reduced to only 90 watts per post with GE LED, the city saves up to 60 percent in energy costs. GE LED also has 50,000 hours life, equivalent to 11 years.
GE utilized Duna LED, specifically designed for park lighting. It provides high-quality and uniform light output with improved lighting distribution while reducing glare. GE’s Duna LEDs produce bright white light that renders excellent color to the environment. The overall effect is a new park experience, especially for leisurely nighttime walks and relaxation, with all the park flowers in their real colors and shades. The combination of aesthetics and functionality makes GE Duna LED ideal for parks and gardens, pedestrian walkways and commercial centers and residential areas, among others.
Congressman Vergara considers the partnership with GE a way to show communities that modern technology can actually be an efficient tool in maximizing efforts to promote cities and still remain committed to saving energy and preserving the environment.
“We are happy to collaborate with a respected brand like GE in lighting up the Burnham Park using a technology that is eco-friendly and energy-efficient at the same time,” Vergara said.
For his part, GE Lighting country manager Vince Adorable takes pride in the role GE plays in lighting up Burnham Park. “The company’s presence in the country spans a hundred years through which GE has played a crucial role providing innovative and energy-efficient technology. This latest undertaking with Baguio City was also consistent with the thrust of GE in environment protection through our global Ecomagination program,” he said.
Ecomagination is an initiative to develop and promote a comprehensive package of energy-efficient home, business and industrial products and fixtures from appliances to lighting and water technologies. Through its Ecomagination-certified products and technologies, GE responds to the crucial call to promote environment-friendly lifestyles and communities.
