Banking on a world of privileges

Retired couple Ulf and Helene Hindriks describe each visit to BPI as “a pleasant experience,” while University of the Philippines anatomy professor Rafael C. Bundoc enjoys the pampered feeling and first-priority treatment that allow him to accomplish his banking needs with expediency.

Few banks ever give clients the red-carpet treatment, but when you’re one of Bank of the Philippine Islands’ Preferred Banking clients, expect nothing but the best.

For starters, a BPI Preferred Banking client is assigned a “relationship manager,” a personal financial adviser tasked to provide a client with all the information and assistance needed to help preserve and grow his wealth. Through his financial adviser, the client also gets first crack at investment options and products offered by BPI. “Whenever the bank has new products and services launched, I immediately get a call from our relationship manager Janet Masilungan to advise me on new developments in the bank,” says Angelita Magcawas, who has been banking with BPI since 1980. “Even when I do my inter-branch transactions at BPI’s Lucena branch, I get the same warm service from the branch personnel there.”

“I like that BPI is always careful and never fails to check or confirm checks that are larger in amount than the usual issuances,” adds Teresita Ojeda-Luz, a BPI client since 1997. “We feel secure knowing that we can rely on the intelligent and sincere advice given on all our questions and needs by our relationship manager Beth Segui,” echo the Hindriks. “And we also enjoy the efficient and friendly services of all other personnel.”

Preferred Banking clients also receive a BPI Express Teller Gold card, the ultimate “pass” to such perks and privileges as the exclusive use of the Preferred Lane in all branches, discounts at selected establishments, and a higher ATM withdrawal and point-of-sale limit. BPI Preferred Banking clients are also given preferential rates and discounts on selected bank products and services.

“I feel special because I don’t have to queue and my transactions are always prioritized,” says Adrianne Mae Joson, president of Campfoods, Inc.

Meanwhile, Ephraim del Rosario, a businessman who’s been banking with BPI for the past 17 years, gets more than just swift service from his bank of choice. He gets invited to different events like stage plays, advance movie screenings and evenings of music and cocktails. “BPI Preferred Banking’s pampering extends even outside the confines of the bank,” he says.

Of course, the “preferred” treatment extends long after you leave your BPI branch. Clients have received special invitations to exclusive events such as “Winning Insights,” an investment forum where clients got economic and financial market updates from members of the BPI Senior Management Team, with main speaker, BPI board director Romeo Bernardo; the Mooncake Festival at the Jumbo Kingdom Floating Restaurant in Manila Bay; and a night of music and dancing with RJ Jacinto. “We feel very important and special when we are invited to events, especially when executives like BPI senior vice president and head of Preferred Banking Imelda Trillo are there to personally welcome us,” says Magcawas, who showed up with fellow Preferred Banking clients for an intimate Coffee Talk, an event where clients are informed of BPI’s products and new promotions. “There were only a few of us present, which made us feel even more special.”
