Unity in diversity in Galerie Anna’s ‘Iskwalado V’

“Miserationem” by SAMANTHA TORREJOS

MANILA, Philippines - Galerie Anna will hold the fifth iteration of its annual art exhibition on November 12 to 25, 2014 at the Art Center in SM Megamall. Gathering around 42 contemporary artists, “Iskwalado” has become a much anticipated institution showcase of the best in the artistic community.

The exhibition is the continuation of the very first exhibition also titled “Iskwalado,” which refers to the local carpenter’s tool, the iskwala, a ruled metal straightedge set at right angles to a straight piece used for measuring and marking square work.

The art pieces to be showcased are all uniform in size (40 x 40 inches). As in the past, there is uniformity in diversity as the participating artists are given freedom to express themselves given the standard measurement. Each artist will set straight his place in contemporary art by showcasing his individual style and mastery of concept, technique and execution.
