MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of German composer’s Richard Wagner’s birth bicentennial, the Manila Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the Embassy of Australia, Manila Hotel, Qantas Airlines, and Lyric Piano present one of world’s most sought after Wagnerian sopranos and Australia’s finest dramatic soprano today –– Claire Primrose with the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Russian conductor Alexander Vikulov in an all-Wagner concert on Nov. 10, 8 p.m. at the PhilamlifeTheater, United Nations Ave., Manila.
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Claire Primrose is a protégée of Great Dame Joan Hammond, an internationally acclaimed soprano and a pedagogue. Primrose has won numerous awards including the ABC Vocal and Instrumental Competition, the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Scholarship Award, the Metropolitan Opera Audition to name but a few. She also studied in London and New York with some of the world’s most renowned coaches. She has sung on many opera stages around the world with some of the world’s finest conductors.
For her Manila debut, she will be performing excerpts from Wagner’s Tannhauser, Tristan und Isolde, Die Walkure and Die Gotterdammerung. She will be assisted by the country’s premiere 80-piece orchestra, The Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Russian conductor Alexander Vikulov, the principal guest conductor of St. Petersburg Symphony State Orchestra and regularly conduct at the MarinskyTheater (Kirov) with special guest artist, our very own tenor Randy Gilongo.
As part of Manila Chamber Orchestra Foundation’s Young Artists Development Program, Primrose will conduct a special masterclass on Nov. 11, at the Filipinas Heritage Library at 2 in the afternoon. This masterclass is made possible through a grant from the BPI Foundation. The masterclass will be open to the public free of charge.
