MANILA, Philippines - The Bayanihan Folk Arts Foundation in collaboration with the Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco Foundation launched the National Dance Theater Choreography Competition during the inaugural performance of “Fiesta Folkloriada” held recently at Rosa Santos Munda Events Center. Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Davao City. Suzie Benitez, executive director of Bayanihan Folk Arts Foundation Inc. said the competition is a “nationwide search for the most outstanding staging of Philippines folk dances rituals or folk tales.”
The accomplished registration form, which can be accessed at www:bayanihannationaldanceco.ph or bayanihan_mla@yahoo.com, must be submitted on or before March 30. Interested parties may also call 525-1685 or 5246285.
The five to seven minute dance piece in DVD should be submitted to the Bayanihan Business Office, Philippine Women’s University, Taft campus, Manila, not later than Aug. 30.
Cash awards and trophies await the winning finalists to be selected by a panel of international jurors. The top winner will perform with the Bayanihan and five participating countries during the grand finale of “Fiesta Folklorida 2012” on December 12 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The folk dance companies which participated this year were from Finland, Sicily, Rome, Korea and Russia.
