MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo Art Auction to be held on Oct. 1, 4 p.m., at Finale Art File is listed in the Art in Asia website, www.artinasia.com. The website is “dedicated to creating a larger marketplace for contemporary Asian art by bringing together a comprehensive directory of Asian artists, galleries, shows and institutions so that Asian art can be found easily by the growing number of collectors from all over the world.” Art in Asia’s headquarters is located in Hong Kong.
This good news was relayed to auction program manager Nicole Paterno by Art in Asia’s relationship executive Fion Cheung who said, “It is with great pleasure to learn that you are holding an auction soon. We sincerely wish you great success in the event.”
Paterno said the listing is a boost to the four-year old auction. “We thank them for featuring us. It will help draw more following to this auction, which is meant to fund more scholarships for deserving yet financially-challenged college students of the Ateneo de Manila University’s School of Humanities.”
Included in the auction are over 70 major works by the country’s most respected artists (such as Kiukok, Onib Olmedo, Santiago Bose, Nena Saguil, Romulo Olazo, Danny Dalena, Manuel Baldemor, Julie Lluch, Lao Lianben, Gus Albor, Nestor Vinluan and Edwin Wilwayco) and much-sought artists (such as Lynyrd Paras, Rodel Tapaya, Winner Jumalon and Norman Dreo). The auction will also have paintings by Alrashdi Mohammad, an emerging artist from Mindanao. One of the big-ticket items is a 1974 set of four paintings by the National Artist H.R. Ocampo from a prominent collector.
The featured works at the 2011 Ateneo Art Auction will be on view at Finale Art File on Sept. 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For inquiries, e-mail nicolepaterno@alumni.ateneo.edu, call the Ateneo Alumni Association at 426-6001 local 4688 or check out www.ateneoartauction.com or www.artinasia.com.
