MANILA, Philippines - Global Art, the largest international chain of creative art centers, holds its third annual art competition with the theme “My World, My Future” on Sept. 18 at the Glorietta Activity Center.
The tilt hopes to encourage each participant to use his creativity in showing what to him is the ideal world and what he will do to make it a reality.
Previously exclusive only to students of Global Art, the competition is now open to everyone. Those interested to join can sign up in any of the four categories: Category A for 4 to 6 years old; Category B for 7 to 9 years old; Category C for 10-12 years old and Category D for 13 to 17 years old. Those interested can visit Global Art Philippines at Unit 101 Sekai Center, 368 Ortigas Avenue corner Madison St., San Juan or call 726-0435 or 0915-8747747.
Global Art utilizes a unique step-by-step art syllabus designed to teach skills and introduce students to more and more complex themes. Anyone can enrol anytime and can progress at his own pace.
More than teaching kids how to draw and color, Global Art aims to develop observations skills, teach patience and discipline, improve concentration and attention span and promote creativity and imagination.
The school employs the concept of storytelling through art. Each student is given a workbook with pre-printed images. They are then asked to use their imagination and weave stories around the images. Thus, a child can transform a pre-drawn apple into a superhero complete with cape and mask in pursuit of a villain while another kid can depict the same apple as a love struck individual exchanging glances with his beloved.
Each work is a far cry from the doodles you would expect from a child. The drawing and coloring skills a student learns is made more vibrant with a complete set of 60 oil pastels that Global Art provides. Students are also taught how to use color pencils and poster colors as they advance.
Global Art started in Malaysia and now has more than 5,000 centers in 18 countries including the US, Australia, China and all of Southeast Asia countries.
Yenny Saw, a young mother who witnessed the benefits of learning art at a very young age, brought the Global Art franchise to the Philippines in 2008 and opened the first school along Ortigas Avenue in the same year. There are now seven Metro Manila satellites plus one in Davao.
