CEU celebrates Arts Month

MANILA, Philippines -  Centro Escolar University (CEU) celebrates Arts Month this February with cultural presentations, an exhibit, and a grand concert presented by the CEU Presidential Committee on Culture and the Arts (PCCA) starting today until Feb. 24.

CEU president Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina leads the celebration, which starts with cultural presentations of the Culture Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran-Manila today at the CEU Librada Avelino Auditorium. Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., PCCA opens the “Yaman ng Lahing Pilipino” exhibit at the Student Activity Center. Guest performer is soprano Camille Lopez.

The show features pictures, signed musical sheets, and other rare mementos of National Artist for Music (1973) Antonio Molina, National Artist for Dance (1973) Francisca Reyes Aquino, National Artist for Music (1991) Lucio San Pedro, National Artist for Music (1997) Felipe de Leon, National Artist for Theater (2001) Severino Montano, and National Artist for Dance (2006) Ramon Obusan.

The CEU Conservatory of Music presents a “Tribute Performance” on Feb. 23, 2 p.m. at the CEU Museum Lobby. Featured performers are Fredline Parin, Ricardo Mojica, Mario Echipare, Elisanta Cortez, Jason Ros, and selected Music students, with Benjamin Reyes as assisting artist.

The PCCA Arts Month celebration will be capped by a grand concert on Feb. 24, featuring the CEU Pilipino Dance Troupe, Himig Centro Escolar, CEU Concert Band, and CEU Conservatory of Music Chorus. Repertoire includes Rosas Pandan, Mamayog Akun, Ti Ayat Ti Mey Sa Nga Ubing, Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso, Isang Linggong Pag-ibig, and Panpang Ginapong. Other performers are the CEU Dance Troupe, CEU Concert Band, and CEU Conservatory of Music Chorus. CEU friends from the Islamic Republic of Iran will present an intermission number.
