MANILA, Philippines - Artesan in Singapore opens its first exhibition this year featuring Filipino artists Ronald Ventura, Ruel Caasi, EJ Cabangon, Manok Ventura, Leeroy New and Igan D’Bayan.
The show, titled “Alter Peace and Formation,” opens on Jan. 11, at Artesan Gallery + Studio, 793, Bukit Timah Road, #02-01, Singapore. The show is on view until Feb. 3.
The show is all about the explosion of “dread, delight and disillusion.”
Cabangon, who is known for his color and detail, begins the interchange by presenting “a typical character, fraught in an unexpected dilemma.” Manok Ventura gesticulates with “a collision course that ends in a mishap.” Caasi offers “a repose of organic understatement to shelter all in a silent vacuum of reflection.” New launches “a pageant of the vivid and the quaint, heralding the virtues of an escapade to the fantastical and the not-so real world.” D’Bayan creates a diabolical retablo of sorts in his “Syphilis of Souls” series, presenting creatures that were borne out of historical abominations. And Ronald Ventura pours out “an avalanche of objects that tumbles out notions of whim and caprice that confounds even the most insightful.” Ronald will also be making his first curatorial mark in Singapore.
Artesan has organized the project to exemplify the fusion of six ideas that bear a common nucleus and character, yet exemplifying a foundation that is strongly their own.
“I am offering the artists an option to represent their work in experimental undertones, a new direction for many of them. Leeroy’s work, on the other hand will continue his exploration of life beyond the rainbow,” explains Ronald.
“Ronald Ventura puts together an exhibition much like the way he positions characters in his beautiful paintings,” says Artesan’s Roberta Dans. “He has an awesome imagination and together with a group he has personally handpicked, he will blow our minds with the show. I have seen him do this time and time again.”
She adds, “The show will be a dialogue of ideas, where concepts converge and integrate — yet remain separate. The intention is to highlight how these hyper-talented artists will use a common platform to display the extent of influence of their alliance and rapport, and the eventual evolution of individual expression coming into play. The combination of energies from these talented artists will be quite amazing.”
