Now on its fifth year, the PLDT-SME Nation “MVP Bossing Awards” continues to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship by recognizing businessmen whose stories of success serve as a great inspiration to young and budding entrepreneurs.

The search team of the MVP Bossing Awards, considered as one of the country’s biggest searches for homegrown business leaders who have persevered and achieved admirable success despite challenges, went over 200 nominations from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to look for those who best exemplify innovation, creativity through technology and readiness to compete in light of the upcoming ASEAN economic integration. In short, they have all the qualities that prove they deserve to be called “Bossing.”

Like in previous years, SMEs (small and medium enterprises) dominated the awards. Established in partnership with Go Negosyo, the MVP Bossing Awards honored the new batch of “Bossings” composed of Johnny Chan of Bellevue Hotels and Resorts, Ricky Reyes of Gandang Ricky Reyes Salons, Julia Gandionco of Julie’s Bakeshop, lawyer Arthur Tugade of Perry’s Group,  Ferdie Marañon of Sagrex Corp., Alice Eduardo of Sta. Elena Construction and Development Corp., Laura Verallo de Bertotto of VMV Hypoallergenics and Esther and Gaspar Vibal of Vibal Publishing Group.

The Grand Bossing Award went to Carlos Chan of Liwayway Marketing Corp. — more known as the manufacturer of the popular snack brand Oishi. Not many Filipinos are aware that Oishi is so popular in China that in 2001, the homegrown brand was declared a “China famous brand” with Chan made an honorary citizen of Shanghai in 2005.

As the ultimate MVP Bossing Manny Pangilinan had noted, the awardees are testament to the fact that if one has good intentions, success can be attained through perseverance — with trials overcome by the triumphs along the way.
