The ‘Singing Diplomat’ bids farewell

Quintessential host Johnny Litton, who always throws great parties for diplomats, hosted a farewell dinner for Indonesian Ambassador Yohanes Kristiarto Legowo and his lovely wife Caecilia at Umu, Dusit Thani’s Japanese restaurant.

Known as the “Singing Diplomat,” who admits to being a big fan of Elvis Presley, Ambassador Legowo is undoubtedly one of the most well-liked and popular Indonesian diplomats who ever served in the Philippines.

Many can still remember the time when the Ambassador and his wife arrived at Malacañang Palace in a colorful “diplomatic jeepney” to underscore the close cultural relations between the Philippines and Indonesia. As a matter of fact, a lot of Filipino words are Indonesian in origin.

Ambassador Legowo has certainly brought bilateral ties between Indonesia and the Philippines even closer, with our Asian neighbor showing us strong support during critical times, like the recent devastation wrought by typhoon Yolanda in the Eastern Visayas.
