Of good food & great company

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” – George Bernard Shaw

Taking pride in the best of Filipino cuisine, Ambassador Roberto Romulo and his lovely wife, Olivia, treated their distinguished guests to a special dinner at the Romulo Café. The notable guest list included former US Ambassador to the Philippines Tom Hubbard and Copper Development Corp. and Crazy Horses Resources chairman and chief executive officer Mitchell Alland.

Business opportunities in the Philippines were among the subjects discussed that evening with Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, Environment Secretary Ramon Paje, US Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. and British Ambassador Stephen Lillie.

Other notable dinner guests were the US Deputy Chief of Mission Brian Goldbeck and his wife Naraa Shirendev, Jun and Tessie Campillo, Beth Day Romulo and lawyer Ricardo “Dick” Romulo. What better way to spend the evening than with good food, engaging conversation and great company!

A tribute to the man who ‘delivered’

In celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of one of its founders, the Makati Medical Center’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology hosted a memorial dinner in honor of the late Dr. Constantino P. Manahan.  Recognized in the country as the best in his field, the soft-spoken and humble doctor was well-loved by all.  Dr. Tito Manahan or CPM, as he was fondly called, treated all his patients equally and made sure they got the best care possible. After his senior residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he could have had a flourishing career in the US but opted to return to the country to serve his countrymen.

Testimonials of Dr. Manahan as a mentor, physician, colleague, friend and family man were given during the centennial celebration held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, which had Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas as guest of honor.

Here’s a toast to the enduring legacy of Dr. Manahan!

A garden of success from CWC

There’s always a fun way to give back and support our fellow countrymen, just like what the venerable ladies of the Catholic Women’s Club recently did with the Casa y Jardin bazaar at the InterContinental Hotel in Makati City. For two consecutive Sundays last month, the ladies raised more funds for various charitable causes. This year’s bazaar was led by (seated, from left) Casa y Jardin co-chair Aleli Sevilla and Lita Goño, CWC 2012 president Sol Tan-Gatue and committee chairman Terry Tambunting joined by Azun Zubiri; (standing, from left) Nonie Basilio, Baby De Jesus, Rose Lazaro, Nena Casimiro, Mely Magsino, Baby De Villa, Chloe Periquet and Tessie Rodrigo. Well done and congratulations to the CWC ladies for a successful fundraiser!
