Style and Substance

MANILA, Philippines - SM fashion ruled at the “Women of Style and Substance” event of People Asia magazine as the label’s latest collections were revealed recently in an intimate fashion show witnessed by well-heeled guests. The Garden Ballroom of the Edsa Shangri-La Manila was transformed into a fashion catwalk when models sashayed down the ramp donning SM’s latest offerings of Corporate Chic dressing, Prints and Couture.

“Shoppers are now aware not only on what would look good on them but also what is ‘in’ fashion. The SM Ladies Wear Department gives them more choices and varieties,” says Ayen Florendo, SM senior marketing manager. “The three collections featured in the show were chosen based on the trend dictation, highlights and focus of the fashion department. These are very popular pieces and some designs have classic or timeless appeal — now with a modern or trendier twist.”

SM fashion is all about function-meets-form — what better way to celebrate style and substance!

Corporate chic

Corporate dressing need not be boring as it reflects one’s power and impact in the workplace. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that up-to-date silhouettes in modern tailoring and contemporary style are widely present in most fashion labels’ collections because these are stable pieces that never go out of style. Confidence is key, though, to ensure that the corporate chic is all about power dressing. Key pieces are oversized coat/ boyfriend blazer, sleek and chic silhouettes with a cinched waist, collarless or streamline cut jacket and cropped pants.

Couture

The new luxury is all about investing in rich fabrication defined in classic styles and forever pieces. A variety of textures reflect the current mood in global fashion. Investing in luxe fabrics is definitely fashion forward. These luxe pieces can be found in the collections of designers Avel Bacudio, Vic Barba, Efren Ocampo and A. Galang, all for SM. Key pieces are embellished and sequined dresses, the always reliable LBD, luxe fabrics (lace, velvet and satin) and red or berry hues.

Prints

Journey to chic looks this holiday season with a range of optimistic prints such as floral, animal, checks, black-and-white and techno-inspired graphics in an explosion of colors that are very in season. At SM, check out pieces from the label’s Avante Garde Section (BCBG Generation and Kensie Girl).
