In a recent family excursion, your columnist experienced first-hand the natural beauty of Camp John Hay in Baguio. Let me tell you, it was like entering a time machine. It was like returning to the Baguio of my childhood, where pollution was non-existent, trees were abundant, and life was tranquil. Upon arriving, the serene surroundings immediately lulled us into a sense of peace and stirred our childhood memories.
Fresh, clean air and colorful flowers, rare sights in the urban locale of Metro Manila, were everywhere. The prominent sights in Camp John Hay were still there; towering pine trees surrounded us. My grandchildren had a great time visiting the Butterfly Sanctuary, riding on horseback, and just exploring and playing in the forest, picking up quite a collection of pine cones. The women thoroughly enjoyed shopping at the outdoor kiosks which offered a variety of local products. My sons for their part trooped to the Nicklaus-designed championship CJH golf course for a relaxing round of golf.
Building up quite an appetite after all that activity, the family proceeded to the Manor Hotel. The friendly staff gave us excellent service and the sumptuous dishes satisfied our palates and appetites. Then it was off to the luxurious accommodations of the Manor Hotel, where our family further bonded by playing board games while relaxing in the rooms cozy interior.
My family got a taste of the "better quality of life" that people always rave about when they visit Camp John Hay. Family get-togethers are truly exciting and enjoyable here. I can think of no better place to bring the family and bond. The fun activities, the soothing commune with Mother Nature, the excellent food, the comfortable accommodations all these make for memorable family outings that the whole family will always cherish.
Happy birthday to our celebrants today, jet-setter Mayenne Carmona, Ambassador Ramon del Rosario Sr. and Tats Manahan.
