How to lose 10 lbs. in your clothes

There are very few girls who can pull off just about any outfit. Most of them are often seen strutting down the runways during fashion shows or gracing the pages of a magazine. Call them models. Call them mannequins.

And as one cringes, call them lucky. They have the metabolism to burn all the unwanted calories and for some reason or another, they have appetites the size of a bird’s. With perfectly shaped long legs and 19-inch waistlines, it’s but inevitable that they can fit into any piece of clothing. In fact, they can probably even fit into children’s clothes. But in as much as one would like to be just as "miniature" as they are (hence the growing number of diet programs and cases of eating disorders), the reality is that some have relatively bigger bones than others. Truth be told, many girls have waistlines that are a few inches over 24 and limbs that are not exactly the size of a twig. This should not limit one from looking great on busy days or nights out with friends. One need not starve for a whole week either just to look fabulous in a pair of pants or dress. Though regular exercise and a healthy diet (excuse the cliché?) are still the best ways for one to lose weight, there are some quick fixes that can make one look like she has just lost 10 pounds.

Confidence.
Nothing compares with positive attitude and personality. Regardless of the amount of makeup or designer clothes you have, if you do not exude confidence, then you definitely won’t look as great as you would want to. Old school as this may sound, good posture and a constant smile are still the best accessories one can sport.

Vertical Stripes.
Whether it be a pair of pin-striped pants or a top, vertical prints can make you look not only more slender but taller as well. Go easy on the stripes though as one might tend to pair a striped top with a striped bottom. To avoid looking like a ledger notebook, pair your striped piece with something plain.

Monochromes.
Dark shades work best in achieving a more narrow illusion for the body. However, this should not limit your wardrobe to blacks and browns. That is, unless, you’re going for the goth look. Try wearing dark blue bootleg jeans with a blue top. Pair it with a light-colored jacket or blazer to hide those unwanted bulges and full bottom. This will draw attention away from your lower body.

Clean Cuts.
Many seem to believe that the best way to hide those bulges is to wear loose fitting shirts or pants. Not only do these clothes look sloppy, they also make you look even bigger. Try wearing a classic dark jacket that is tailored to make your waist look narrow and arms less full. Low necklines also balance out the lower body. Finding the right cut for your body type will help accentuate those curves. A well-cut top can also make your upper body look more angular than round.
