STAR DreamGirl Chaps Yuson

Statuesque Chaps Yuson is an AB
Communication Arts graduate of Miriam College in Quezon City. The 5 ft. 7 in.Chaps is also a full-time print and ramp model "Modeling is something I’ve aspired to do since I was a kid," says Chaps. "So when the opportunity to model came my way, I never had second thoughts about it. It was my chance to fulfill a childhood dream."

Asked what it takes to become a "living mannequin," Chaps replies, "I think one has to have the ‘height,’ the face and the figure. More than these, positive attitude matters most – it’s having self-discipline and good work ethics. To turn heads, a model must have the charisma or ‘it’ to give herself an identity or recall."

Chaps, the daughter of architect Jose Yuson and the former Carmen Sison, hopes to enter the real, glamorous world of fashion. This time not the mannequin being dressed up but the budding designer being asked to create classic yet up-to-date clothes.

"I want to have my own clothing line," says Chaps. "My (signature) design is a mix of mine and fashion icon Marc Jacobs. I go for minimal designs but with impact. I veer away from sequins, embellishments. I opt to play with colors. I would like to create clothes where my customers can incorporate them with what they have inside their closet. I want my clothes to be wearable and practical. I stick to what I believe. The simpler, the better."

Chaps, who carries a lip gloss or a lipstick to avoid looking pale, describes herself as "fair individual. Since I’m a Libra, I would weigh things before a make any judgment or decision. I’m also child-like. I think being vibrant like a kid is one way to enjoy life."

Chaps believes that to become successful, "One should never sacrifice one’s dignity for the sake of fame. One should never step on other’s toes."

"Happiness," ends Chaps, "is accomplishing things one has to do." –Jerry Donato
