MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has provided humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Office of Civil Defense said.
OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno led the turnover of essential supplies, including 8,323 bonnets, 3,187 pairs of gloves, and 20 blankets to the Jordanian Consulate on Friday.
The Philippines’ donation will support the Humanitarian Air Bridge Campaign of Jordan.
“We stand in solidarity with all those impacted by this tragedy and recognize the urgency of the situation,” Nepomuceno said.
“We are hopeful that today’s ceremony will not only celebrate the successful partnership we have forged but also inspire other Philippine agencies to join future rounds of this important campaign. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need, both here and abroad,” Nepomuceno added.
More than half a million people have returned to north Gaza since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect last month. Needs for food, water, sanitation, health care and tents are enormous, with some returning to their former homes with shovels to clear the rubble.
The temporary agreement to stop the fighting and release hostages brought an end to some 15 months of conflict and destruction in the Gaza Strip, following the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
