MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has named Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac as head of the DMW months after he was designated as its officer-in-charge, Malacañang announced yesterday.

Cacdac was chosen as OIC of the newly created agency after the death of then secretary Susan Ople in August last year.

Prior to his ad interim appointment in the Cabinet, Cacdac held several key posts related to the plight of overseas Filipino workers. He was executive director V of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, executive director V of the Philippine Employment Administration (POEA), and labor undersecretary.

Other posts he held include POEA deputy executive director V; executive director IV of the National Conciliation Mediation Board, and director IV of the Bureau of Labor Relations. He was also associate lawyer and urban poor unit coordinator of the Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal.
The DMW was created through Republic Act 11641 signed by former president Rodrigo Duterte in 2021.
