Pinay killed in UAE fire

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Workers (DMW) yesterday confirmed that a Filipina was among those killed in a fire that gutted a residential building in the United Arab Emirates.

Hans Cacdac, DMW officer-in-charge, also reported that the deceased overseas Filipino worker (OFW)’s husband is in critical condition following the fire.

“Right now, we continue to pray for him because his condition is critical. Yes, it was his wife who died. He is in the ICU and we are monitoring his situation,” Cacdac said in a radio interview.

He said the Philippine government is working on the repatriation of the deceased Filipino, and added that financial and legal assistance will be provided to the husband.

There were 11 Filipinos in the residential building when the fire happened. Based on reports, 10 Filipinos were among 40 people who were hurt in the fire.

Cacdac said the other Filipinos are safe and are currently staying in a hotel.
