MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has announced 9,776 passers of its national scholarship qualifying exam who will receive undergraduate scholarships to pursue Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or STEM studies.
“Their success in the qualifying exams signifies their immense potential in the S&T field... The support our program offers will enable them to explore their scientific interests and pursue higher education, setting them on a path to become the next generation of scientists, technologists, innovators, and problem solvers,” said DOST-Science Education Institute director Josette Biyo.
The 2023 DOST S&T Undergraduate Scholarship recorded a total of 79,585 examinees who took the pen-and-paper exam in 243 testing centers nationwide last March 18-19.
The face-to-face exam was halted for the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The institute had to use data analytics and proxy indicators to identify qualifiers.
Undergraduate S&T scholars will receive a monthly stipend of P7,000 across all disciplines.
They are also entitled to a tuition subsidy of up to P40,000 per academic year, along with book and clothing allowances, group accident insurance, and one economy class round trip fare per year for those studying outside their home province.
There are 1,224 more potential qualifiers under consideration, pending revalidation of some requirements.
