MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte will end 2018 with a “very good” satisfaction rating, according to a Social Weather Stations survey that showed more Filipinos satisfied with the firebrand leader in the fourth quarter.
Results of a December 16 to 19 poll of 1,440 adults show 74 percent of respondents satisfied, 11 percent undecided, and 15 percent dissatisfied with Duterte.
That yielded a net satisfaction — used by the pollster as a rating of the president’s performance — of “very good” +60, up by six points from +54 recorded in the September survey.
This brought Duterte’s full-year net satisfaction average score to a very good +54, five points below the very good +59 last year.
Broken down, SWS said the six-point rise in the president’s net satisfaction rating in December was due to increases of 22 points in Metro Manila, 13 points in the Visayas, and three points in Balance Luzon that offset a four-point decline in his home region of Mindanao.
Satisfaction with Duterte was also up in all socioeconomic classes and among high school and college graduates.
Based on SWS methodology for net satisfaction ratings, a score of 70 and above is considered excellent, 50 to 69 is very good, 30 to 49 good and 10 to 29 moderate. — Ian Nicolas Cigaral
