Batangas, Laguna suspend classes amid aftershocks

MANILA, Philippines — Classes were suspended Batangas and Laguna the day after a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Tuesday night.

Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas early on Wednesday suspended public and private school classes on all levels in Batangas as aftershocks ensued following the quake.

Batangas Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, meanwhile, conducted preemptive evacuations due to continuous aftershocks felt in the province.

Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez also suspended all classes in Laguna to enable engineers to inspect buildings and classrooms reported to have sustained damage.

Hernandez also called on school officials to have qualified engineers to conduct inspection.
