MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Karen (international name Sarika) has intensified further and now poses a threat over Aurora province, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, the eye of "Karen" was located at 205 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin.
It packs maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.
PAGASA advised residents in Luzon to take precautionary measures against impacts of strong winds and heavy rainfall.
It is forecast to move west northwest at 22 kph and is expected to be in the vicinity of Dagupan City, Pangasinan on Sunday afternoon.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 500-km diameter of the typhoon.
