MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday honored former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino on the commemoration of her 83rd birthday tomorrow.
“President Corazon Aquino’s humility and selfless service inspired all of us in our fight to restore democracy and rebuild our nation,” the Vice President said.
“As we commemorate her birth on Jan. 25, let us continue to fight for the ideals she fought for – a government that truly cares for the people and a nation free from fear, hunger and poverty,” he said.
Binay was a political ally and friend of the former president, who died of colon cancer in 2009.
He initially maintained a close relationship with the Aquinos despite running and winning against Manuel Roxas II, the running mate of President Aquino during the 2010 elections.
Binay, however, parted ways with the President last year when he took the helm of the opposition and started openly criticizing the government for its policies.
He is running against administration bet Roxas in the May elections.
