MANILA, Philippines - Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) standard bearer Augusto Syjuco has been disqualified from the presidential race.

The party is scouting for a presidential candidate after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) disqualified Syjuco, KBL president Vicente Millora said yesterday.

The KBL has thrown its full support behind the vice presidential candidacy of Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son and namesake of the party’s founder, the late President Ferdinand Marcos, he added.

Marcos is running as an independent candidate.

Millora said with or without support, the KBL will campaign for Marcos at the local level to keep the party alive and pursue its political vision for a new society.

“The party is still in the process of finalizing our lineup, we are scouting for our presidential candidate,” he said.

Millora said KBL has nominated local candidates and is planning to adopt its own senatorial lineup.

The party is awaiting the Comelec decision on its petition against the installation of new party leaders without election, he added.

The KBL is currently divided into two factions – one led by lawyer Jose Vicente Opinion and the other by Millora, who filed the petition.

The Comelec has submitted the Millora petition for resolution.
