MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday afternoon reported that Typhoon “In-fa” locally named “Marilyn” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In the weather forecast issued 5 p.m., PAGASA said Typhoon Marilyn was located 1,140 kilometer east of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.
Marilyn, the 13th tropical cyclone to affect the country, is forecasted to move west northwest at 25 kph.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said if Marilyn maintains its speed and movement, the typhoon is expected to exit the PAR by Wednesday or Thursday toward Japan.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said there is also an intertropical convergence zone affecting Mindanao.
Mindanao, Bicol region, eastern and central Visayas will also experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms while Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with light rains.
The weather bureau said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
The weather agency already issued gale warning due to the effects of the northeast monsoon causing rough sea condition.
