Mexican president touches down in Manila for state visit, APEC

MANILA, Philippines – Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Tuesday afternoon arrived at the Villamor Air Base to conduct a state visit ahead of his participation at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Just like his Chile counterpart President Michelle Bachelet, Peña  Nieto will also hold a state visit in the same trip right before the APEC Leaders' Meeting.

Peña  Nieto was welcomed by Philippine government executives led by Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay and Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr.

Peña Nieto is expected to be welcomed by President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañang around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

He will also lead a summit dialogue on growth at the APEC CEO Summit’s ninth session entitled “Securing Growth in a Volatile World: What is to be done?” with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla. This will be held at Makati Shangri-la on Wednesday morning.

Prior to his presidency, Peña  Nieto served as the governor of the State of Mexico from 2005 to 2011.
