Philippines, Sweden ink social security agreement

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines and Sweden have signed a social security agreement allowing citizens of both countries to secure long-term and pension benefits.

Swedish Minister for Social Security Annika Strandhall and Philippine’s Social Security System president and chief executive officer Emilio de Quiros Jr. signed the bilateral agreement between the two countries on Oct. 15 in Stockholm.

The agreement guarantees equal treatment of Philippine and Swedish nationals in accessing contributions and claims to pension benefits.

The agreement will have to be ratified separately by the two countries before it is implemented.
