Edu Manzano joins Senate race as independent bet

MANILA, Philippines — Actor and former Optical Media Board Chairperson Edu Manzano on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy for senator at the Commission on Elections.

Manzano will enter the 2016 senatorial race as an independent candidate.

The actor noted that his sons Luis, also an actor, and Lorenzo may run for office someday.

Manzano was the running mate of former Defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. during the 2010 national elections.

He lost to then Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay in the vice presidential race. He was Makati vice mayor from 1998 to 2001.
