Cops kill Taft bus hostage-taker

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 5:57 p.m.) - A man was shot dead after taking passengers of a bus hostage on Taft Avenue corner Pedro Gil in Manila on Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from radio dzBB, Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said that the unidentified suspect was shot by the police.

The suspect was armed with a knife and rode an HM Transport Bus and later on declared hostage, a report from the STAR said.

Passengers managed to escape the bus through the back window, except for a female student from Technological University of the Philippines.

The student was immediately rushed to the Philippine General Hospital.

The hostage-taking incident only lasted for around 30 minutes. - Patricia Lourdes Viray
