MANILA, Philippines –The selection committee of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Tuesday announced that it is formally asking Sen. Gringo Honasan to become Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay’s running mate in 2016.

“The selection committee of the UNA announces that it is formally offering to Sen. Honasan the position of UNA's vice presidential standard bearer for 2016,” UNA said in its Twitter media advisory.

According to UNA’s president, Navotas Rep. Tobias “Toby” Tiangco, Honasan’s long year of service and experience as a soldier and legislator will help the tandem.

“He has championed the rights of urban poor and farmers, promoted the welfare of the masses, government workers, and our men and women in uniform,” Tiangco said.

UNA said the tandem will highlight the party’s commitment to uplift lives of the poor, upholding democracy and restoring the dignity of every Filipino.

On Monday, Binay and Sen. Vicente Sotto III confirmed that Honasan and Binay are meeting to discuss about their possible tandem which Binay calls “Bingo.”

Honasan is also the elected vice president of UNA in its launch last July.
