MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II on Tuesday clarified that he is not interested to run with Vice President Jejomar Binay as a team in the 2016 national elections.

"I have not considered it," Honasan told members of the press in a televised ambush interview.

Honasan stressed that he prefers to prefer to work behind the scenes and said that will help the United Nationalist Alliance in the upcoming elections.

The senator noted that a tandem of Binay and Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is "formidable."

Binay earlier revealed that Marcos and Honasan are among his top choices as his vice president for the 2016 elections.

The opposition party is set to announce Binay's running mate and complete senatorial slate by the last week of September.
