ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Sen. Grace Poe visited a religious congregation and consulted a nun in her trip to this southern port city Tuesday.
Poe, who arrived early Tuesday in Zamboanga, visited the Carmelite Monastery and consulted a certain Sister Agnes whom she asked for prayers about her political plans.
President Benigno Aquino III, during the 2010 presidential campaign, had reportedly stayed for two days inside the Carmelite Monastery where he made his discernment to run for presidency after consulting Sister Agnes.
Poe declined to confirm whether her consultation is about finally deciding to run for office.
“Aaminin ko ako’y kumonsulta sa marami, lalong lalo na sa mga religious dahil kailangan ang iyong spiritual formation para dito. So kasama na dyan si Sister Agnes,” Poe said.
She said she would only consult Sister Agnes, and she would not stay in the Carmelite Monastery.
Poe also visited the transitory site of thousands internally displaced persons affected by the failed siege by followers of Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari in September 2013.
Poe said the city is close to the heart of her family, citing her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr. who won the 2004 presidential race in the city, where he had filmed several movies. Poe also topped the senatorial race in Zamboanga in 2010.
