Ruben Enaje, the man who will be crucified this afternoon in Cutud, Pampanga, said he will pray for the government.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - The man who portrays Jesus Christ in the yearly crucifixion rites in Barangay San Pedro Cutud has an appeal to government officials, particularly President Benigno Aquino III.

Ruben Enaje, 54, said he would be praying for the country and for the government when he is hoisted on the cross for 10 minutes this afternoon.

He will pray that government leaders will really help poor Filipinos like him and those in his barangay.

"Yung tungkulin natin dapat nating gawin. Huwag tayong mag-atubili na tumulong sa mga nangangailangan," Enaje said in an interview.

"Sa ating pangulo, nakikiusap ako na gandahan pa po ninyo ang inyong panunungkulan. Kasi po papalapit na ang inyong pagreretiro, sana naman po ay meron kayong isang proyekto lamang na magiging halimbawa sa inyo na kayo ay nanungkulan at ito ang inyong nagawa noong kayo ay namamahala sa bayang Pilipinas," Enaje added.

Enaje also hopes that officials will shun corruption.

"Wala na kayang matinong uupo sa ating gobyerno? sana naman maging iba na ang ugali ng mga uupo. wala pa rin e," he said.

Enaje said he will also pray for the 44 members of the Special Action Force who were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
