PNP ready to probe Trillanes claim on Mamasapano operation

Intertional terrorist Marwan was killed during the operation of the Special Action Force last January 25 in Barangay Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is willing to look into claims that an intelligence officer treated the Special Action Force (SAF) troopers and some military officials on the eve of the Mamasapano operation to a drinking spree.

In an interview over radio dzMM, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo said they are ready to probe the serious allegation to clear the issue.

"Handa kaming magpaimbestiga para malinawan itong isyu na ito," Cerbo said.

He, however, pointed out that police units who will do the investigation would still need to have a go-signal from their superiors.

"Meron naman kaming mga grupo dito sa PNP.... na pwedeng magsagawa ng ganitong pag-iimbestiga pero marahil naghihintay din lang ng mga proper guidance mula sa nakakataas," he added.

Earlier, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that a PNP intelligence officer got some of the operatives involved in Operation Exodus, a plan to capture Malaysian terrorist Marwan and his Filipino accomplice Basit Usman, drunk a day before it was launched.
