Group to BOI: Make Mamasapano report public

The Board of Inquiry is set to submit its report on the Mamasapano incident today to the Philippine National Police leadership after several delays.

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police's (PNP) Board of Inquiry (BOI) must immediately release to the public its report on the Mamasapano incident once it is forwarded to officer in charge Leonardo Espina and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, according to militant group Bayan.

Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. said it is to ensure that there will be no white wash in the findings of the BOI panel.

"Any delay, especially coming from the President, bolsters the long-held fears of a cover up," Reyes.

He, however, added that he does not expect nothing much from the BOI report after President Aquino's speech last Monday where the chief executive pinned the blame to sacked Special Action Force head Getulio Napenas Jr.

Meanwhile, BOI head , Police Director Benjamin Magalong said the submission of the BOI report will proceed today.

Magalong earlier assured that the "quality" of the report would not be compromised after he asked for several extensions for its submissions.

During the Mamasapano operation, 44 SAF commandos tasked to capture Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, also known as Marwan, were killed after an encounter with Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters in Barangay Tukalanipao, Mamasapano,Maguindanao last January 25.

A number of MILF rebels and civilians also died during the incident.
