MANILA, Philippines - Easterly winds will bring slightly warmer temperatures with light to moderate rains in Bicol and Eastern Visayas in the next two to three days.
Samuel Duran, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster, said yesterday these areas, as well as the provinces of Aurora and Quezon, will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The cold northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to affect Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, he added.
Duran said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
“We still expect the re-intensification of the northeast monsoon in the coming days,” he said.
Duran said slightly warmer temperatures might affect the country in the next three days due to the weakening of the northeast monsoon.
“The northeast monsoon season has not yet ended,” he said.
Based on PAGASA data the coldest weather recorded in Metro Manila was at 14.9 degrees Celsius on March 1, 1963, Duran said.
PAGASA said the northeast monsoon may last until the first half of March.
Duran said the presence of the easterlies might signal the transition of winds from northeasterly to easterlies, or warm air blowing from the Pacific Ocean.
The easterlies are the prevailing wind during the dry or summer season, he added.
PAGASA continues to monitor a low-pressure area hovering over the Pacific Ocean. Duran said the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a cyclone.
