MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - At least one militant had been killed after a clash between two rebel groups in Maguindanao yesterday afternoon, the military said today.
The firefight between Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) started at around 5 p.m. local time in Pagalungan town in Maguindanao Province, according to Jo-ann Petinglay, public affairs officer of the Army's 6th Infantry Division.
She said the fighting went on till 10 p.m. local time on Saturday with the military refraining from taking sides due to the "volatile situation" which she said may cause more panic among the people.
One MILF militant was killed in the clash while casualties on BIFF side were still unclear.
The BIFF is composed of about 300 to 400 former members of the MILF.
