Nancy Binay emotional over brother's contempt charges

Senator Nancy Binay was in tears when members of the press asked her about her brother, Makati Mayor Erwin "JunJun" Binay, who is facing contempt charges for refusing to attend Senate committee hearings on the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building II.

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Nancy Binay was emotional when members of the press asked her about the contempt charges that her brother Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay Jr. is facing on Monday.

According to a report, the senator was in tears when she said that she would focus on the children of her brother Junjun, who lost their mother a few years ago.

"Pagtutuunan ko muna ngayon ang mga anak ng kapatid ko kasi alam n'yo naman di ba... alam n'yo naman kasi na wala nang mommy 'yung mga pamangkin ko tapos ngayon mawawala pa 'yung father nila," Nancy Binay told the press.

The Makati mayor is a widower with four children.

Nancy Binay is worried that the children will experience losing a parent for the second time.

"An'daming hindi dapat madamay pero kasi dahil sa personal ambition ng ibang tao, wala na silang pakialam kung sino 'yung masugatan, masaktan basta maluklok sila sa 2016," Nancy said.

The female senator added that the contempt charge seems to be a decision of two senators and not the whole Senate.

She was disappointed when she did not see a "sense of fairness" from her colleagues in the Senate.

Meanwhile, Junjun Binay issued a statement regarding his detention and asked the public for prayers.

According to a report from radio dzMM, the Makati Mayor said that he is willing to be detained.
