MANILA, Philippines - Nur Misuari has not authorized anybody to represent the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the congressional hearings on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
Speaking to The STAR, MNLF spokesman Abasalum Cerveza said he was reacting to reports that breakaway MNLF leaders met with an emissary from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) who is closely watching the peace efforts in Mindanao.
Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has proposed a safe conduct pass for Misuari so he can participate in the congressional hearing to air his views on the proposed law.
However, the MNLF said Congress has no control over the court which issued the arrest warrant against Misuari for his alleged involvement in the Zamboanga City siege last year.
Cerveza said although the breakaway group of 15 has recognized Misuari, they remain outside the loop of the MNLF’s chain of command.
The MNLF has opposed the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law for overlapping with its 1996 peace agreement with the government that the OIC brokered.
The OIC has adopted a resolution urging the government to reconcile the proposed law with the 1996 peace accord.
However, the government has not officially responded to the call.
