AFP chief: No need for loyalty check

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Gregorio Catapang yesterday said there is no need to conduct a loyalty check on AFP members amid rumors of a destabilization plot against the Aquino administration.

Catapang visited the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) at Camp Navarro here where he was briefed by the ground commanders on their security operations.

He denied that loyalty check was done on members of the Wesmincom.

“The soldiers are loyal to the Republic (of the Philippines) so there is no need for loyalty check,” Catapang told reporters.

The AFP chief said he just wanted to meet the troops.

He held a conference with Wesmincom chief Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero, Naval Forces Western Mindanao Command Commodore Reynaldo Yoma and 3rd Air Division chief Maj. Gen. Nicanor Vivar.

Catapang also told reporters that the funding received by the military from the administration’s Disbursement Acceleration Program was used to boost its capability and other AFP projects.
