MANILA, Philippines - Businesswoman Janet Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the P10-billion pork barrel scam, will be transferred from her detention cell in Laguna to a female dormitory of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Taguig City within the day.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said he will order the Philippine National Police and BJMP officials to transfer Napoles from Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to the detention cell in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.
This after the PNP did not oppose the order of the Sandiganbayan regarding her transfer.
Napoles, who has been detained for illegal detention charges before the Makati City court, is also facing plunder and graft cases before the Sandiganbayan in connection with legislators' priority development assistance fund.
Roxas said "The Philippine National Police has communicated with the Regional Trial Court of Makati, which in turn issued a Comment interposing no objection to the Order of the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court. Hence, the PNP and the BJMP will cause the transfer of Janet Lim Napoles to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Bicutan facility within the day."
"I have directed the PNP and BJMP involved in her transfer to coordinate and ensure the safety of Ms. Napoles while in transit from Fort Sto. Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna to the BJMP facility in Bicutan," he added.
The Sandiganbayan has ordered the transfer of Napoles to the BJMP facility as Fort Sto. Domingo "is not a jail. "
