World Bank president visits PNoy for good governance dialogue

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang is hosting today a forum on good governance to be attended by World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.

The event dubbed as "Daylight Dialogue: The Good Governance Challenge" will also be participated by members of the national and local government, civil society, media, academe, business groups, and international development partners.

President Benigno Aquino III will be the event's keynote speaker. The World Bank president paid him a courtesy call earlier today.

The forum, which will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. at the Palace, will feature three plenary sessions tackling different issues regarding good governance.

According to the government's Official Gazette, the Daylight Dialogue aims to:

  • Share how the government's openness has created a paradigm shift in Philippine governance practices—a shift, from adversarial to a more constructive civil society engagement, to promote open government;
  • Share the Philippines’ experience in initiating and implementing good governance reforms, overcoming challenges along the way; and
  • Foster discussion on how key good governance reforms will be sustained and institutionalized.

Last January 2014, the Aquino administration also hosted the Good Governance Summit, which discussed the various reforms focusing on transparency and accountability.
