MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The Philippines and Myanmar are targeting to sign an agreement that will strengthen their military ties, a senior government official said here today.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin issued the statement a day after Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Defense Services, paid him a courtesy call.
"We look forward to the possibility of having a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Defense Cooperation with Myanmar, which can serve as a Defense Agreement between our two countries," Gazmin said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear when the MOU will be signed by the two sides but Gazmin said the pact will pave the way for training exchanges and dialogues.
