MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday confirmed he would stand as one of the principal sponsors in the upcoming wedding of lawyer Levito Baligod and Marilou Galenzoga.
Binay stressed no politics was involved in his decision to stand as godfather to Baligod and Galenzoga.
Baligod is the former legal counsel of principal whistle-blower Benhur Luy and witness Merlina Suñas, while Galenzoga is Binay’s political ally and supporter.
“I do not know attorney Baligod personally. But we came from the same region,†Binay said, referring to Cagayan Valley.
“His bride is former Baybay, Leyte mayoral candidate Marilou ‘Malot’ Galenzoga. She is our leader and was our candidate in the United Nationalist Alliance,†Binay said.
Binay said Galenzoga supported him and the UNA candidates all the way in the past elections.
“I knew her well and she is my friend. We have debt of gratitude to her,†Binay said.
“We are talking about the Church here, not politics,†Binay added.
