MANILA, Philippines - Former Army general Eduardo del Rosario has resigned from his post as executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for health reasons.
NDRRMC spokesman Maj. Rey Balido said Del Rosario submitted his resignation to Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin last Thursday.
Balido said Gazmin, as chairman of the NDRRMC, has yet to act on Del Rosario’s resignation.
Del Rosario is also the administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, whose primary mission is to administer a comprehensive national civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management program.
Balido said Del Rosario cited tiredness and exhaustion as among the reasons for quitting his post.
Del Rosario held the position for a year and two months after replacing former Army general Benito Ramos, who had resigned to attend to his ailing wife.
Del Rosario drew public criticism over his handling of the disaster left by Super Typhoon Yolanda last year.
