Noy’s Labor Day activities being finalized

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino’s activities for Labor Day are still being ironed out, Malacañang said yesterday.

“There are proposed activities so once those are final and approved by the President, we’ll make the announcement,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said over radio dzRB.

In previous years, Aquino held dialogues with labor groups.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz earlier announced that public and private workers could enjoy free MRT 3 rides on May 1.

The Department of Transportation and Communications said the free rides will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Workers should present their company IDs and log their names with the security guard assigned at the service gate before they are issued boarding passes.

This year’s Labor Day theme is “Sa Sipag, Tiyaga, at Talino, Buong Mundo Saludo sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”

Baldoz said the Department of Labor and Employment would simultaneously conduct 65 job fairs in 16 regions. She said 1,985 employers had confirmed parrticipation in the job fairs wherein 115,384 jobs nationwide will offered.

“These numbers are preliminary and may increase,” she said.

Baldoz said they have conducted 266 job fairs from Jan. 1 to March 31 this year.
