DND to hold new bidding for P2.5-B amphibious vehicles

MANILA, Philippines - Another bidding for the supply of eight brand new amphibious assault vehicles worth P2.5 billion for the Marines is slated for next month.

A Department of National Defense bid bulletin said prospective suppliers may buy a complete set of bid documents from the DND Bids and Awards Committee starting today for P75,000.

The documents may also be downloaded from the website of the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System but the bidder should pay for them before the submission of bids.

A pre-bid conference will be held on April 29 to allow interested firms to ask questions about the project requirements.

The deadline for submission of bids will be on May 15.

The DND held a bidding for the project last November but it failed because it did not attract any offer.

South Korean firm Samsung Techwin was the only company that bought bid documents for the project but did not join the bidding.

In a letter submitted to defense officials, Samsung Techwin had said that it might not meet some requirements set by the bid documents.

The company said some requirements set by the government could raise the costs to be incurred by a supplier like those related to warranty and operation bases.

To be qualified, a prospective bidder should have completed within 10 years from the date of submission and receipt of bids a contract similar to the project.

The bidding is open to local and foreign firms subject to the provisions of the implementing rules of the procurement law.
